The Tri-Service Radar
Symposium (TSRS) is the most prestigious and oldest continuous meeting of
defense radar engineers, scientists, and technologists. The TSRS will celebrate
its 71st Symposium in 2025. The Symposium evolved from the Synthetic
Aperture Radar Symposium, first held by the University of Michigan in 1955. The
change from university to military sponsorship in the late 1960s expanded the
event by presenting a wide range of radar
technology programs that span research and development through currently
fielded systems of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. It is
the only venue that specifically concentrates on classified and sensitive radar
technology and development. Chairmanship rotates yearly among the Army, Navy,
and Air Force; the 2025 Symposium is being coordinated and led by the Army.
This rotation synergistically benefits the services, the broader Government,
and Department of Defense (DoD) contractors through peer interactions that
enhance the quality of work and stimulate creativity by sharing ideas and
progress across services and corporate organizational boundaries. Over the
years, participation has grown to include industry and academic partners with
the TSRS becoming a truly integrated community event.
